Who We Are

Positively Cleveland (formerly the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland) turns 75 in 2009. It was organized on February 2, 1934 as a private not-for-profit corporation in the State of Ohio. Prior to that it was a department of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce.

Positively Cleveland’s mission is to promote Cleveland Plus as an outstanding meeting and tourism destination in order to grow the region’s economy.

Positively Cleveland advertises in target markets, brings conventions and meetings to the area and services them, generates positive publicity for the region and handles travel-related media requests, entices international tourists to the region, coordinates hotel and attraction promotions, brings motorcoach and tour operators to Northeast Ohio and runs two important websites: www.positivelycleveland.com and www.clevelandmeetings.com. Positively Cleveland also advocates for the region’s hospitality industry.

Funding
Positively Cleveland is funded by a 3% countywide hotel/motel occupancy tax and dues from member individuals and organizations. Approximately 90% of Positively Cleveland’s budget comes from bed tax. Membership revenue dues represent approximately 8% of the budget and the remaining balance comes from miscellaneous other sources.

Organization
A professional staff is responsible for the daily operations of Positively Cleveland. Staff is divided into the following departments: Administrative, Membership, Marketing, Sales and Convention Services. Positively Cleveland’s President is Dennis J. Roche.

A volunteer Board of Trustees representing the hospitality industry and business community establishes Positively Cleveland policies. Kurt C. Treu is the current Board Chair. Treu is the President of U.S. Bank in Northeast Ohio and Regional Chairman covering Northeast and Central Ohio.

Accreditation
Positively Cleveland was awarded accreditation in 2007 from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP).  DMAP is an international accreditation program developed by the Washington, DC-based Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI).  By earning accreditation, destination marketing organizations are able to show the community, buyers and potential visitors that they have attained a significant measure of excellence.
