What does the City of Cleveland have to offer in the way of public transportation?

RTA's new HealthLine between downtown Cleveland and University Circle opened in fall of 2008.

RTA

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority provides an array of public transportation options throughout the City of Cleveland and within all of Cuyahoga County.  And, RTA is consistently rated one of the very best public transportation systems in North America.

The Rapid Transit light-rail train system, with its hub at Tower City Center in downtown Cleveland, has four lines.  The red line travels both east and west between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (west) and the Louis Stokes Station at Windermere (east).  The green line (the Shaker Line) travels east, along Shaker Boulevard between downtown Cleveland and Green Road.  The blue line (the Van Aken Line) also travels east, along Van Aken Boulevard between downtown Cleveland and Warrensville Center Road.  And the Waterfront Line provides a convenient trip along the waterfront, between Tower City Center and the city’s Municipal Parking Lot with stops on the East Bank of the Flats at the Cleveland Browns Stadium and at the waterfront museums (most notably the Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum).

The recently opened RTA HealthLine, sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals, travels the Euclid Avenue Corridor between Public Square in downtown Cleveland and the Louis Stokes Station at Windermere in East Cleveland.  The HealthLine provides fast and efficient service between downtown (including PlayhouseSquare and Cleveland State University), the Cleveland Clinic campus, University Circle (including Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals), and the suburb of East Cleveland.

Downtown Cleveland also has two RTA trolleys which can make getting around downtown a lot easier.  The B-Line (or Business Line) provides access to the major business and governmental organizations.  The E-Line (or Entertainment Line) provides access to the major entertainment districts, including the historic Warehouse District, the East Fourth Street area of the historic Gateway District, and PlayhouseSquare in the heart of Cleveland’s Theatre District.  The E-Line also provides access to Cleveland State University.  The trolleys are free of charge . . . with a smile.

Finally, we have RTA’s many buses which can take one almost anywhere in Cuyahoga County.  For more information on RTA’s rates, routes, and services, please visit www.gcrta.org. –Chris Musselman, Positively Cleveland Visitors Center
